but it is by no Altum, those like me who have possessed or simply observed (in my case in Duisburg 98 for world championships DISCUS) know what I mean.
The major difference comes first of the dorsal and anal fins that are much longer and more slender than the conventional scalar.
Quite a few smart breeders cross for about 6-7 years of scalars of the rio Nanay, Santa Isabel with including a thorough selection of the pinched mouth character….which sows doubt among the average consumer.

For my part I can confirm that these are indeed Altums, Simon Forkel is certainly the most famous breeder in Europe and he works with wild individuals that some get to him regularly!!
In addition there are fish of different fishing areas, rio Atabapo, rio Inirida, Rio Orinoco and Rio Ventuari, This is important because their appearance is slightly different depending on their origin, particularly at the level of the melanic pattern!!
I currently have in my tank some from the rio Atabapo which were directly imported from Colombia and which are similar to those of M.Forkel with the typical characteristic Altums of the Atabapo with patches and the red dots on the entire front surface of the head backwards along the dorsal fin!!
Simon Forkel is a purist and certainly not crosse Altums with scalars that he reproduces because he also breeds pterophyllum Manacapuru and pterophyllum Nanay, as well as the Santa isabel!!
