The 5 and 6 April 2014 will be held the 3rd edition of the France discus show which will take place in the South West of the France.
It is the city of’Arvert in Charente Maritime, which will host this event in a weekend dedicated to the Aquarist hobby…
Arvert receive the championship 2014 for the 3rd edition
Arvert is a city of 3000 people located in the South West of the France in the Charentes-Maritimes Department. This city is near Royan (Less than 15 km), less than 50 km of La Rochelle (And its famous aquarium…) but also to 100 km from Bordeaux.
On the edge of the oyster culture area of Marenne Oléron, Mecca refining oysters "Marenne Oléron" this place attracted by its varied landscapes.
Ideal for nature lovers, walks, and photos!
For those who would be a little less interested by the lengthy discussions between discus lovers is located nearby the "la Palmyre" Zoo (Ideal for childrens).
For ladies, she will be able to find their happiness in the streets of the beautiful City of La Rochelle…
Sometimes you need to find compromises, and there is no doubt that the region will offer a good number of possibilities!
Organisation of the French Discus Show 2014
Three associations gather to create an event of great scale. SODA (South West Discus Amateur), AQUA17 and the Aquario Club Atlantic 17 will offer to visitors the France Discus championship but also an aquarist stock exchange, conferences and exhibitions/sales of fishs and invertebrates for aquariums.
SODA, the association of lovers of discus will to organize for the 3 nd time already the contest dedicated to the discus.
The France Discus Show who hosted in previous editions Switzerland, Brazilian or Spanish participants will be keen to continue its progression.

This year, the France Discus Show will host up to 100 Discus in aquariums specifically dedicated to the fish of the contest.
The fishes will have filtered and heated individual aquariums. This in order that participants can begin to Acclimate their fish from Friday 4 April.
It is from Saturday that the public will be able to discover the multitude of discus coming from various horizons. A Saturday not to be missed because it will be placed under the sign of the discus with the prize giving, conferences and video, a dinner with passionates and still many other things!
The French Discus Show 2014
Once acclimated, This is a panel of 6 judges who will have the heavy responsability to elect the most beautiful discus of contest.
This year, I am pleased to join this panel and I hope see you many in Arvert with why not your fishes.
Judging during a Discus Show in France will be for me a real pleasure.
The first three in each category will be awarded with a trophy created for the occasion and product from SERA the German brand partner of the event.
For this edition 2014 the judges will be gentlemen David Bailly, Dominique Jelhaye, Alain Joris, Marc Vermessen, Franck Straumann and myself. With responsible for the jury M. Xavier Jeanmaire.

Professionals of the universe of discus are expected as many amateur breeders.
An important thing is to emphasize in this contest and not the least: The election of the best from amateur discus farms.
This is quite rare to be noted!
This approach is very attractive and will allow amateur breeders of discus to be rewarded for their work.
The aim here is to encourage amateurs to participate in the Discus Show.
The three best fishes from french amateur breeders will receive prices from SODA… And if one of them was swimming in your aquarium? 😉
To access the French discus championship 2€ will be asked for the two days of the event.

Programme of the weekend
The programme will be update, but to allow everyone to organize, Here's how to run the French discus championship 2014.
Friday 4 April 2014:
This day is dedicated to the reception of discus for the contest. The participants will be able to Acclimate their discus from 10 H to 16 H.
18h will take place the first judgments.
Saturday 5 April:
Early in the morning, judges will control their judgments in order to give every chance to fish in contest.
The room will be open to the public at 10: 00 in the morning and everyone can enjoy all the discus of contest.
The trophies will be awarded to the winners in early afternoon.
2 lectures will be given in late afternoon. (The discus in their natural habitat / The discus in Asia)
Around 18 H / 18 h 30 the area will close its doors in order to leave room for the dinner.
In the evening, a dinner among discus lovers will be proposed. You will need to reserve your place in advance.
Sunday 6 April:
Opening of the room at 10h.
The aquarium fish stock exchange will open its doors. Visitors will have access to the discus of championship, and stock exchange of aquarium fishes raised by many amateur breeders.
Closure of championship at 18h

To get to Arvert 2014, I suggest you follow this link "Go in Arvert by road".
5 H 30 from Paris, 2hours from Bordeaux, 4h30 from Toulouse, 7h from Lyon by car Arvert is rather well served.
For those who want to do carpooling, do not hesitate to let you know here on this page in order to put you in touch with other enthusiasts. This will allow you to limit the cost of road!

For those who wish to, you will be able to come by plane.
Indeed La Rochelle airport is served by direct flights from Ajaccio, Lyon, Paris in France; Geneva, Switzerland; London, Bristol, Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds England; Dublin, Cork, Ireland, The Portugal Porto, and Brussels in Belgium.
